WONTAI POWER's "Real-Time Power Prediction for Flow Batteries" Technology Granted National Invention Patent

Recently, WONTAI POWER's "Real-Time Power Prediction Method for Flow Batteries" was granted a national invention patent, addressing the challenge of power control under constant-voltage conditions in vanadium redox flow batteries.

During the operation of vanadium redox flow battery energy storage power stations, conventional power calculation methods rely on fixed parameters. Affected by battery aging, temperature, and electrolyte flow rate, power prediction errors tend to be large. At the same time, equipment often operates for extended periods under constant-voltage charge/discharge conditions, leading to increased side reactions, accelerated stack degradation, and shortened service life, while also failing to meet the power control standards required for grid integration and real-time electricity trading.

To address these industry pain points, the patent introduces three major technological innovations:

First, it establishes a three-tier protection system consisting of BMS pre-judgment, PCS limiting, and EMS station regulation. This system reduces power in advance before constant-voltage switching, providing multi-level safeguards to ensure continuous and safe operation of the unit while minimizing side reaction losses.

Second, it adopts an FFRLS adaptive algorithm model that dynamically adjusts parameters based on on-site operating data. Combined with a temperature and flow compensation mechanism, the model adapts to battery aging and changing operating conditions, thereby improving calculation accuracy.

Third, it implements a closed-loop iterative voltage parameter control logic, which progressively corrects power output based on polarization changes. The calculated data is directly connected to the PCS and the power station management system, meeting the reporting standards for grid dispatching and real-time electricity trading.
